‘Funcom,’ the game development studio currently holding video game rights to the ‘Dune’ franchise, announced ‘Dune: Awakening,’ a new massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Dune: Awakening will be a survival game with a persistent, evolving world. This means the actions of players have an impact on the world of the game. Players can perform tasks to help certain non-player character (NPC) factions gain more power in the game’s lore, and can even establish their own organization to become a persistent organization in the game.
This is the second Dune-branded game announced by Funcom, with the first being ‘Dune: Spice Wars,’ a real-time strategy game. Dune: Awakening takes a more active, action-focused approach with immersive environments, detailed characters, fast gameplay, and an ever-evolving world for players to enjoy. The game does not yet have a set release date, but Funcom confirmed that Dune: Awakening will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC devices.
