Meta announced the expansion of the Instagram Close Friends feature to now include regular posts and reels. The Close Friends feature previously allowed users to share Stories with only a select list of friends. These story bubbles would appear green, as opposed to the original reddish color, showing that the post is private and only for select individuals.
However, up until this point, timeline posts and Reels were restricted to all friends, or public, only. Now, Instagram is allowing users to set these to Close Friends as well. Meta stated that this change is intended to create a “pressure-free space” for users to interact with one another on the platform. Additionally, this offers more freedom for individuals who previously created a second account, set it to private, and restricted this account to only close friends. Now, the number of unnecessary account creations should decrease.
