This year, the alcohol brand Cuervo worked with Haley Lu Richardson on a special Cinco de Mayo campaign. The initiative was titled Go Off This Cinco and encouraged people to people to disconnect from their smartphones and spend more time socializing in person. As part of the campaign, Cuervo gave out Y2K flip phones, which are commonly known nowadays as “dumb phones.” These devices have seen a surge in popularity as more people turn to them in order to unplug. Sales of these phones are projected to reach 27.6 million units by 2025.
Individuals would enter a special Cuervo-branded Cinco de Mayo campaign website ahead of the holiday for the chance to win a dumb phone. For those who did not win a phone, Cuervo offered a chance to win cash prizes.
